Editorial Review Putting the past to rest has never been this much fun. Tara Walsh has come a long way from paying her dues in a smoky New Orleans club. Her albums sell millions, her tours sell out and she has a hit DVD. Her name is known around the world. Now she’s back home for a holiday charity concert—and to say a proper goodbye to the past. A past named Duncan Rousse. Five years ago, Duncan pushed Tara away for one reason: to force her to reach for the stars. She deserves the life she’s earned, even though it left him with a broken heart that’s never healed. Having her back in his arms only makes the pain worse, yet the last thing he can do is beg her to stay. One wild, passion-filled night in the sexy Cajun’s bed has Tara’s body singing with pleasure. But can they both get what they want this Christmas? Warning, this title contains the following: explicit sex, second chances, making up for lost time with a sexy Cajun, and Christmas wishes that might really come true. Reviews

Editorial Review The higher the stakes, the harder they fall—in love. Julia Savage’s weekly poker games are tearing her apart. She’s in love with two of her fellow card players, and much as she’d like to pick and confess her true feelings to one man, she won’t. Not if it means risking the love of the other. He’s going to seduce her—in front of his friend and rival for her affections, Jay Baxter. But Jay’s not willing to lay down his cards. Editorial Review The Oedipal Complex has never been so sexy… Alex Carradine can’t believe his father wants to come and visit his ski resort. Could it be that after so many stormy years, “slick Mitch” Carradine wants to offer an olive branch? Maybe the old man is mellowing, settling down with the new lover he’s bringing along. Then Alex realizes the acid truth. This is no warm family visit. His father’s new conquest is none other than the woman of Alex’s sexual fantasies, meant only to dangle tauntingly in front of his face. At least an unexpected blizzard has frozen his father out of the picture entirely. Angeline Kastakis was looking forward to taking the next step in her relationship with Mitch. Too late, she realizes she’s been led into a familial battle zone. Now it’s Christmas and she’s marooned in a blizzard with an insolent, gorgeous hunk of man whose blazing blue eyes tell her loud and clear he wants her in his bed. Preferably tied to it with a bow. There’s no escape in sight. But as Alex stirs her secret longing to be mastered by a man, escape is the last thing on her mind… Warning: This book contains scenes of sensual submission hot enough to make you sweat in a blizzard. Editorial Review New Year’s resolutions have never looked so good. New Year’s Eve. The party is rockin’, and Claire is in her usual spot holding up the wall. It’s all right. She’s much happier scribbling in her trusty little notebook than mingling. Especially since those notes turn into the sexy erotic romances she pens in secret. Those two gorgeous gods across the room are perfect hero material and…oh dear, are they headed her way? Mason and Hunter know she won’t remember them as the scrawny geeks they were in high school. She also doesn’t know they’ve been lusting after her for ten long years, waiting for her to meet a man and have a normal relationship. They’re through waiting. The time has come to make their move—and show her exactly how much they’ve changed. One night in the middle of a Mason/Hunter manwich, and Claire has enough research material to fill a hundred notebooks. Good thing she’s got OfficeMax on speed dial to order more. Except suddenly her two hunks have this crazy idea that keeping her is selfish. Selfish? She may be mousy, but this mouse is about to roar… Warning: Threesomes! Light bondage, blindfolds, breakfast made by two hot men who used to be geeks. Parades, cotton candy, more sex, and convincing said men they are WRONG and threesomes are RIGHT. Reviews

Editorial Review For Jake, holiday memories of brightly wrapped gifts, decorated trees and family were destroyed in a Christmas Eve tragedy years before. Now Christmas means just one thing to him—and to his father. Profit. Because they need a Christmas miracle to keep the business afloat. Holly Larson needs a miracle, too. She wants to give her eight-year-old nephew, Gabe, the holiday he deserves. Holly's widowed brother is in the army and won't be home for Christmas, but at least she can get Gabe that toy robot from Finley's, the one gift he desperately wants. If she can figure out how to afford it… Fortunately, it's Mrs. Miracle to the rescue. Next to making children happy, she likes nothing better than helping others—and that includes doing a bit of matchmaking! This Christmas will be different. For all of them. Reviews
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Call Me, Mrs Miracle by Debbie Macomber is everything I typically tolerate in a holiday movie and loathe in a novel. I don't like romance but I love Christmas. Take a mysterious albeit benevolent older woman, add a handsome heir apparent and a single woman who is sacrificing herself for the good of others and you have a typical romance cum Christmas novel. Add a few recipes (for cookies, chicken, and a salad), toss in a few aphorisms that are too often trite and read like church signs rather than deep truths, and you have this novel.
But I didn't hate it. I think I would have liked it very much as a movie. And apparently, Hallmark is doing just that-coming to a television near you, a sentimental bit of holiday schmaltz. Wait, this is a sequel? There's already a Mrs Miracle movie out there made by Hallmark you say? Why yes, apparently there is, which goes to show you that I may love Christmas but tend to avoid romance. The thing is, this is not a bad novel. It's cute and, if you like this type of story, it isn't disappointing. A quick and relatively mindless bit of reading. It reminded me of Holiday Affair and I could see where, had I watched this on television one evening or afternoon, I would have sighed in holiday delight. So for these reasons, I'm not saying I hate the book. Remove the Christmas stuff and I would have disliked it much more. Remove anything else and I probably wouldn't have liked it much more . . . a delicate balance suggesting the novel meets expectations, doesn't exceed them. Watch the movie if this is your cup of tea. Or, if you love romance novels, give yourself an afternoon of holiday themed escapism. As for me, I probably won't watch this or the other movie. Unless I am absolutely jones-ing for something Christmas and there's nothing else around. Given I have dvds and cds of my own, I doubt that will happen. But you never know . . .
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Debbie Macomber's CALL ME MRS. MIRACLE is a light-hearted story that reads like an episode of Touched by an Angel. While this is the first book I've read by her, it won't be my last. I'd recently had the chance to hear her speak at the RWA Awards in Orlando and her personal story of triumph over adversity is no doubt the root and reason for her having over 100 million copies of her novels sold worldwide.
Holly Larson's life has just become a bit more complicated. Her parent's have left for Haiti to volunteer and her brother has received orders to ship off to Afghanistan leaving her as the only candidate to care for his son, Gabe. Her life slowly starts to unravel as one disappointment after another befalls her, until one day, in a struggle to find change to pay for her Latte, a random act of kindness sets her life on a new and unexpected course. What follows is a cheerful tale of how one woman's determination to not let life's unexpected twists and cruelties ruin Christmas, changes not only her own life, but the lives of those around her as well. Of course, she does have a little help along the way in the influence if one Mrs. Miracle. Not only does Debbie treat us with an inspirational holiday story, but she also includes recipes for Holiday Sugar Cookies, Fried Chicken and Baby Arugula Salad with Goat Cheese, Pecans and Pomegranate Seeds from her Cedar Cove Cookbook. This story lifted my spirits, tugged at my heart and made me feel something that I haven't felt for a long time--excited for the holidays. If you haven't read anything by Debbie before, then this is a great place to start and it will definitely set the mood for the upcoming holidays. Final Verdict: While the ending may cause some to roll their eyes with Debbie's traditional, over-the-top, everything-comes-together-perfectly style, you can't helped but be warmed by this tale of love and sacrifice that comes just in time for the holidays. Look for the movie airing November 27th on the Hallmark Channel.
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Mrs. Miracle (a.k.a. Emily Merkle) is back. This time, she's helping Jake Finley, the scion of a department store owner, and Holly Larson, a young woman caring for her nephew because his mother passed away and his father was called to duty in Afghanistan. Several other characters have problems of their own, but with Mrs. Miracle around, it's a safe bet those problems won't last. And when the nephew decides that the one toy he must have for Christmas is the very robot that Jake stocked up on for the store (against his father's wishes), all the parts are in motion to bring everyone together.
As Christmas stories go, this one struck me as typical of the author's many Christmas books. Romance is at the center of Christmas, and romance will out. However, this book seemed to have much more of a heart than some of the others. The characters are still somewhat stock and it is obvious that Debbie Macomber is trying to pull certain emotional strings long before she actually pulls them--but this is a fun book to read and just enjoy, or it was for me. One last note: I'm not sure why Mrs. Miracle would be so concerned helping a large store sell its stock of 500 $250 toy robots (total value: 1/8 of a million dollars), but the qualms I had about this plot element were not all that serious, certainly not so much so that I couldn't enjoy the book.
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) A magical plot and a touching story that will make you smile and warm your heart. This follow-up book to her best-selling book and much-loved Hallmark movie titled, "Mrs. Miracle," is a takeoff of the classic film, "Miracle on 34th Street." It's a very fast, easy read that makes for a terrific Christmas gift.
There's a father and son, Jake and JR who don't celebrate Christmas because Jake's mother died in a Christmas Eve car crash when Jake was 12. However, they run a family toy store which forces them to participate in all the usual Christmas planning and decorating. The plot is driven by Jake meeting Holly, a young woman who has custody of her 8-year-old nephew, Gabe, whose father is serving in Afghanistan. Gabe lost his mother, too -- when he was an infant. We learn that Gabe wants the same toy that Jake feels will be the hottest selling toy of the year. Jake goes against his father's advisor and orders an excessive number of the toys -- the $250 Intellytron robot -- which leaves it up to Mrs. Miracle to work her magic. Then, to everyone's amazement... Hmm... I'd better stop here as I'd sure hate to give the ending away! (smile) It's an excellent book, I couldn't put it down! My wife and I can't wait to see the forthcoming Hallmark movie! Highly recommended for public library collections and for purchase as gifts for your wife, mother or favorite aunt. R. Neil Scott Middle Tennessee State University
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) I always notice these little holiday books that come out around October and November, and some times I get confused, as to whether it is a reprint or a new story.
Well, I got this book, "Call Me Mrs. Miracle", and I am pleased to report that it is a new story! In fact, it might even be released as a Hallmark movie that we can watch next month! I didn't recall the first book in this series entitled Mrs. Miracle, and I didn't need to in order to enjoy this story. It draws on the magic of "Miracle on 34th Street" which is one of my all time favorite holiday movies. It is also by one of my favorite "feel good" authors, Debbie Macomber. The story takes place in New York City, and the main character, Holly Larson, is a single young woman who is taking care of her eight-year-old nephew, while her brother is deployed in Iraq. Holly works for a "Devil Wears Prada" type boss named Lindy Lee, and when she finds out there will be no holiday bonus this year for her, she panics, as she wanted to buy a special toy for her nephew's xmas gift. This book has a very modern cast of characters and social dilemmas, and anyone who likes the Nicholas Sparks or Richard Paul Evans stories will certainly enjoy this one. It definitely got me in the mood to start enjoying the holiday season. ... Read more | |
